It’s not easy for the Department of Justice to label someone or a group a domestic terrorist because they have to satisfy at least one of three approaches to be determined as so, which are:
- Are their actions an act of domestic terror? ( Fun Fact:Domestic Terror isn’t an actual crime)
- Does the group conspire and act in such a way to deprive individuals of their civil rights?
- Are the crimes or actions considered hate crimes or hate motivated?
What is Domestic Terrorism?
The Patriot Act defines domestic terrorism as endeavors to “intimidate or coerce a civilian population; to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination, or kidnapping.”
Antifa fit the definition because their tools and methods used are through intimidation. Last year failing, discredited and interest-driven television station CNN did an investigative piece on Antifa.
Antifa of today is a blend of anarchism and perceptual antifascism which is a very dangerous combination. Antifascism is based on personal perception. Some may consider nationalism just and right but others consider it fascism. This is why it is so dangerous and feeds into the hive mentality of those which cannot discern differences and use broad brushes using the term “Nazi” for anyone that they believe are biased, racist and condemning fringe or traditional values that threaten their beliefs.
Many, just like CNN and other radical left television, radio and print outlets sympathize and deter the public to define Antifa as a terrorist group. Even Mitt Romney tweeted out his support for the group two years ago.

The FBI defines domestic terrorism and indicates that such groups are primarily U.S. based and have extremist ideologies. Antifa fits that definition with no need for speculation and or question.
Domestic terrorism: Perpetrated by individuals and/or groups inspired by or associated with primarily U.S.-based movements that espouse extremist ideologies of a political, religious, social, racial, or environmental nature.
–for example, the June 8, 2014 Las Vegas shooting, during which two police officers inside a restaurant were killed in an ambush-style attack, which was committed by a married couple who held anti-government views and who intended to use the shooting to start a revolution.
Months ago our contributor interviewed members of Rose City Antifa for a magazine publication. The leadership of Portland Antifa expressed to her what their ultimate goal is.
One day when we clean out our country from extreme fascists and neutral fascist like you, you will understand that we used your weapons against you. Terrorist groups are not like us they make exceptions we don’t. You are either with us or you are the enemy.
If that isn’t a terrorist manifesto we don’t know what is. ISIS’s manifesto is along the same lines but their goal is to eradicate non-Muslims that refuse to convert and submit to Allah.
Comparing two groups of U.S. citizens exercising their right to free speech we can see that one group is doing just that, protesting while the other one looks like they are going to war.
On August 17, 2019 there was a peaceful protest to be held in Portland that has been countered with Antifa rioters. Right away they began intimidating persons that were not part of their “group”. A man who wasn’t participating in anything was being chased away from public property and had his personal belongings taken from him.
Why the delay in deeming Antifa a Domestic Terror Group?
The radical left argue that attempting to label Antifa and their actions as a domestic terrorist group raise political questions about free speech and religion. Basically, the ACLU stance is that if a person or group of people are determined to be terrorists like Antifa it would be considered politically motivated. They “fear” that it would be used against anti-war groups and environmental activists.
It’s an incredibly broad label. There’s a real danger of the government criminalizing ideology, theology and beliefs rather than focusing on specific criminal acts.

This notion is rubbish. First off, extremist environmental activists have been charged and tried for domestic terror and crimes committed that have caused harm and or destroyed property.
The bottom line is – Antifa’s actions DEPRIVE citizens RIGHTS they are afforded by the US Constitution from freedom of expression, protesting, enjoying public property etc. A peaceful protest was organized in Portland on August 17, 2019, that was countered and violently attacked by Antifa. In the video below we observe an older gentleman simply waving an American Flag and violently attacked for doing so. This is, in fact, a crime but more so demonstrates that the primary objective of Antifa is to deprive the civil liberties U.S. citizens who don’t agree with their extremist ideology. based on their extremist ideology. This is by definition what a domestic terrorist group does.
The delay is for the same reason we don’t get a full list of domestic and foreign terrorist groups: Compiling data.
Before a group is deemed a terrorist group, extensive research is done. About 75% of that research is to determine profiles, methods of recruitment, demographics and “hot spot” locations. Elaborating, let’s assume (even though it’s evident) that most Antifa members are registered as DSA voters, therefore all DSA voters are put into a terror watch list.
The remaining 25% of that research is creating a database with names, pictures and profiles of all members of such a group.
Terrorists are NOT afforded the same rights as non-terrorists. They are prosecuted under different laws, they most likely are stripped of any right to vote and may no longer qualify for federal benefits such as welfare, medicare and social security. Anyone on a terror watch list or deemed a domestic terrorist is also never eligible to work for the U.S. government and most likely placed on DO NOT FLY lists, in addition to being unable to buy firearms.
Terrorism has no place in society. Antifa is comprised of people who intimidate U.S. citizens with physical violence, psychological violence, doxxing them to perpetuate physical, psychological or financial harm and harassment of individuals to deter U.S. citizens from enjoying the civil liberties that our Constitution affords them.
