During a busy Monday newsday, POLITICO reported that Facebook CEO and tyrant Mark Zuckerberg met with several conservative media figures as tensions flare between Silicon Valley and the political right over the topic of political censorship.
We reported on the meetings, particularly on the fact that the political left was angered that Zuckerberg, their ideological ally, would dare sit down with those politically right of Joseph Stalin. But as Gateway Pundit was keen on noting, one “conservative” figure who hasn’t faced any censorship also met with Zuckerberg during this time.
That figure was Ben Shapiro, the political left’s favorite controlled opposition “conservative,” whose website The Daily Wire is funded by GOP establishment fracking billionaires Dan and Farris Wilks.
“CNN commentator Mary Katharine Ham, conservative commentator Ben Shapiro, AEI fellow and former Washington Free Beacon editor Matt Continetti, Town Hall editor and Fox News contributor Guy Benson, and Media Research Center founder Brent Bozell have also attended the dinners, according to the person familiar with the gatherings,” POLITICO reported.
Shapiro is a known quantity in #NeverTrump circles who infamously declared that he would never vote for President Donald J. Trump when his site, The Daily Wire, was in its infancy. Millions of dollars in outside funding later, Shapiro’s site has grown into a NeoCon staple, and he has stayed strong in his convictions (or lack thereof) in only supporting Trump when it is politically expedient for himself and the rest of the GOP establishment.
As Gateway Pundit noted, while many pro-Trump news outlets were censored or banned, Shapiro’s traffic grew.
“Young Cons, Western Journalism, SarahPalin.com, Chicks on the Right, Independent Journal Review, Right Wing News, The Gateway Pundit, Infowars (banned completely), Breitbart, Pamela Geller, Laura Loomer (banned), 100% Fed Up, The Drudge Report and several others have seen dramatic loss in traffic and influence,” Gateway Pundit said.
When Loomer and others, including Milo Yiannopoulos, Paul Joseph Watson, Alex Jones, and Gavin McInnes were drummed off Facebook forever, Shapiro did not put up a fight. In some cases, he even defended the censorship of fellow right-wingers with the tired argument that Big Tech titans in Silicon Valley are private entities, and can do what they want.
Interesting then, isn’t it, that while his conservative media competitors were being booted from the internet, Shapiro’s site gained a massive amount of traffic? And then he met with Zuckerberg. With friends like these, who needs enemies?
What the pair discussed in their meeting is unknown, but one thing is certain: it did not end with Zuckerberg reinstating the conservatives who have been banned from his platform.
Many in the true, grassroots journalistic community – the community that is self-made and not funded by billionaires who steer our content to promote certain business interests – have been noting for some time that Shapiro is simply a mouthpiece of the established order. That was all but confirmed when Vanity Fair ran a profile on Shapiro, explaining how Hollywood producer Jeremy Boreing approached Shapiro with the explicit goal of turning him into a media star.
“Let me make you famous and we’ll have a much louder voice and a much bigger platform to advance our interests,” he reportedly told Shapiro.
Unsurprisingly, when the rubber met the road and Trump came along – the first conservative in decades willing to fight back against the left – Shapiro wanted no part of it. He fits the classic NeoCon mold: better to lose politely than win impolitely while craving the acceptance of the political left, which he’ll never obtain.
